The Mārga? To journey forsaking conflict and violence.

The foundation? Remarkable intellect, knowledge, judgement, discernment and wisdom.

First published in the online version of Revue {R}évolution in August 2022, this work began as an exercise in creative translation with

a difference initially, it was intended to represent an imagined transmission of an Epigram by Martial (a Roman author that was most

prolific through the second half of the 1st Century CE) to a Han Dynasty Court of the 1st or 2nd Century CE. The Epigram chose is

known as I:109. Having settled the Chinese text, a creative translation into English followed.

The text in Chinese and English is exhibited by Revue {R}évolution with an audio file (comprising a reading of the English text) and

some short thoughts on 'the future of poetry' (presented – appropriately – as a poem).

The image shown below is a depiction of 觀音 (Guānyīn ['the appearance of news or tidings']) or 觀世音 (Guānshìyīn ['observing the

sound of the world']) a metamorphization of Avalokiteśvara (whose name could be read as something like "This Loki is now Lord",

or "From consciousness, spirit, senses, feeling, soul and courage, 'little you' is capable of excellence, beauty, choice, wishes, blessing

and gifts"). By the by, in Buddhist tradition, the companion of Avalokiteśvara is Ārya Tārā ("Noble Star") or 多羅菩薩 (Duōluó Púsà

["able and efficient kind-hearted person"]). Interestingly, too, in ancient texts referring to the philosopher Apion, he is referred to as

cymbalum mundi ('the ringing of the world').
